On 14th November 1995 a small working party, consisting of members of the Management
Committee and advised by the worker at that time, drew up a comprehensive list
of aims and objectives for the organisation. These are listed below:
Our Aims Include:
• To look after elderly people; make life easier for them; help them with
difficulties.
• To improve the environment in which elderly people live.
• To relieve stress.
• To bridge the gap between statutory and voluntary services.
• To improve the physical and mental health of elderly people living in
Holbeck.
• To enable elderly people to live independently in the community if they
wish.
• To help relieve the isolation and loneliness experienced by many elderly
people.

How Do We Try To Achieve These Aims?
• By making sure older people receive all the benefits to which they are
entitled.
• By assisting older people to apply for benefits e.g. helping them to
understand and complete application forms.
• By providing advice and information.
• By arranging trips out, social events etc.
• By visiting older people, befriending them, referring them to the appropriate
service as necessary e.g. Social Services, GP, Home Care etc.
• By publicising the services available to older people.
• By recruiting volunteers, training and supporting them.
• By addressing those issues which most affect and concern older people
e.g. crime.
• By organising campaigns as appropriate, highlighting problems and issues
facing older people e.g. Winter Warmth Campaign.
• By ensuring long-term funding and continuity for the Project.
• By building links, networking, and working with other services and organisations
on certain issues.
• By acting as a pressure group on behalf of older people.
• By co-ordinating meetings involving other groups with similar interests
and concerns.
• By supporting and enabling the worker in his / her work - that is, by
being good employers.
• By providing practical help to older people e.g. smoke alarms, home
security/safety equipment etc. and applying for funding for this.
• By carrying out winter assessments and following up needs discovered.
• By working in a flexible, responsive manner.
